Frank Portanova, Director

Archbishop Stepinac High School Theatre

"Joseph is an ambitious young man who sets high standards for himself. He has a penchant for thinking outside the box and finding various creative modes of expression.  This is especially apparent in his stage work and musicianship.  Joseph is the consummate performer and is able to rouse an audience emotionally with his music and dramatic performances.  The humanity that is evident in each speaks to our audience on a level that resonates with all of them.  It has been a pleasure and privilege to be witness the evolvement of his talent."

"Joey DeSanctis is a highly intelligent and talented young man. For years I saw him growing and recently I spent some time listening and discussing his compositions. I was deeply impressed and that is not an easy task, since I worked with some of the most talented people in the world. Besides an amazing understanding of counterpoint and chord progression, Joey is attentive to the details and a very good listener, which is essential for a successful career.  Future of the American music have no worries.

Keep your good heart humble Joey, in the future, as it is today...and the world is yours."

Scott Treibitz

Musician and Private Teacher, M. M. in Composition from Mannes College of Music

"In my many years of teaching, it has been rare to have taught a student like Joey. He has excelled in so many areas. He plays drums, keyboards and guitar at a professional level and can sing both lead and background vocals. He has composed a large selection of work that is both original and mature. Joey is equally comfortable in the studio (as an engineer and musician) and on stage.

As a soloist or leading an ensemble, he shines in any style he intended to utilize.  I have had him play as a back-up musician for years with my students and he has been always responsible in learning his parts. Then Joey comfortably approaches the performance with all the spontaneity and split second attention that the stage requires. Similarly, either in the practice room or in the studio, he has shown a willingness well beyond his years to spend the time and energy required to accomplish any musical task."

"I have had the pleasure to share my knowledge of music and guitar playing with Joey DeSanctis. He is a great student, his joy for all things in music goes far beyond his years… His talent is inspiring to me. Knowing that some of the seeds of my experiences have been planted in his fertile mind gives me hope for the future. It will be a joy to watch his talent and creativity grow…"

Roxanne Surace

Music Minister, Leader of Song - Holy Innocents Parish

"I have been a Music minister at Holy Innocents parish for over 10 years, and have had the honor of working with Joey DeSanctis.   When Joey has been able to participate in our liturgies, he elevates the quality of the music.  Liturgical music requires a different skill set than what Joey demonstrates in rock and classical genres, but his talent allows him to blend and add as needed.  The congregation doesn’t expect drums for example, but Joey plays with such sensitivity to the flow of the liturgy, that they’re participation is not distracted, but instead enhanced.   The music comes to life, and often so does the congregation!

In addition to adding his musical talents, Joey’s very presence at church, is a wonderful example to other young people.  His service to the parish, and his willingness to give of his time to share his talent is an inspiration to young and old."

Singer, Songwriter, Performing artist, Author

"I am a singer songwriter and Joey played the drums with me for a music festival and some open mics. Even though there is an age difference i.e. Joey is a high school student and I am definitely not, that disappeared when we worked together.  To put it simply, we clicked musically.  Joey had a sensitivity and humility beyond his years.  There was no ego.  He used his talent to add to a song and my voice rather than drown it out to show off his chops. I’ve worked with older musicians who were unable to do that.  Joey is genuine, down-to-earth, passionate about music and a pleasure to work with."
